Human skull influences rest of body
"The skull is a most wonderful & intricate creation. It is actually an incredible complex 3D jigsaw puzzle of the highest order, & yet it is far more malleable than most people think" - Dr Bradley Nelson
💀 The adult human skull is made up of 22 bones:
- 8 cranial bones
- 14 facial bones
Conventional anatomical wisdom taught us that the bones of the skull were moveable in only young infants, & were solidly fused in adults. It wasn't until the 1970s that this was disproved by a team of researchers at Michigan State University..
By studying FRESH cranial bone specimens (as opposed to chemically preserved ones previously studied), cranial bone motion was found & measured.
Furthermore.. blood vessels, nerve fibres, collagen & elastic fibres were identified in the cranial sutures (where skull bones meet), further supporting the potential for movement within the skull. The skull bones were NOT found to be fused together as we've previously been led to believe.
With Craniosacral Therapy (CST), it is possible to assess for mobility & restriction of the cranial bones. Treating the restrictions at the skull can influence the WHOLE body given that everything is quite literally connected (e.g. via the one-ness of the skeletal & fascial systems).
Recent examples:
I have seen a few clients lately who've had some kind of past trauma to their nose (including fracture). These people came for help with persistent lower limb issues (foot, knee, hip). Detecting that something wasn't adding up, I was drawn to their injury history relating to the nose..
On assessing tissue quality in this area & surrounding cranial bone motion, it was clear there was history still playing out in their body relating to their old facial injury. Following gentle release techniques & addressing bony restrictions, there was a remarkable & SUSTAINED improvement in their symptoms as well as on their physical assessment. Astounding! 🤩
Know anyone with a persistent pain/niggle/restriction in the body that isn't responding to conventional treatment? Especially those with a history of face/head injury/surgery? CST could well be the 'silver bullet' 🙌
